Artist's Comments

This is the first design in my portfolio, meant to be an interpretation of Mephistopheles (Da Debil!) from Faust (Either Marlow or Goethe).
I did it in the period of late Elizabethan, so hence the paned trunkhosen, doublet, and codpiece (I was considering making it huge, the devil's sure to have an ego about that sort of thing, after all).
Also, using my skills in symbolism: The colors of red (for lust, blood) is on the exterior, whereas the slashes are black (Thus proving that the devil, no matter how charming, is truly evil). The shoes are meant to evoke the idea of cloven hooves. Also, for those not into subtlety, there's 666 insribed on the rapier scabbard.

I was trying to evoke the salacious, refined, charming, forboding, and stunning nature the Devil seems to have on people's minds.

I can't tell you how much I love this. The colors, the costume, EVERYTHING. Great, wonderful, fabulous job. <3

The expression and the hat won me over.

Also, oddly, his legs. The positioning looks badass.
