Description
For Windycon I was requested to draw some character-costume ideas for a panel called 'Types and Tropes'. We discussed ideas for steampunk characters that went outside the usual classes and representation- as well as how to illustrate these in one's costumes.
Here we have an intrepid messenger who delivers orders and correspondences between airships- his various gear and props aid him in his work gliding through the skies. A bit of foolhardy insanity also helps.

Out of curiosity, was the American Indian headdress combined with the goggles and half-mask to make an alternative history steampunk version of the dreadfalls that cybergoths seem to be wearing lately? (or did you start with the cybergoth look from the shoulders up and THEN substituted the dreadfalls for feathers? Same shape, same profile, more symbolic of historically traveling across the plains ala pony express, though.) Either way, I'm impressed with the use of a headdress for this character's look.
I'm still not sure what the cylinders on his shins do, though. I'm guessing they aren't hollow carrying cases, because the one at his hip is of a larger size.
