Chief Bei Fong: DC 2012 by Forfaxia Chief Bei Fong: DC 2012 by Forfaxia
Lin is by far my favorite female character in Legend of Korra and one of my ultimate favorites in the entire Avatar Universe. In addition to her dedication, badassery, and indomitable spirit, I also liked the challenge of making her police uniform, albeit in a realistic way. When I do a cosplay, I want to look like the character stepped through the screen.

- The armor was hand-drafted and draped over a dress form to fit me (corsetted) perfectly. It's made of craft foam layered 3 thick and laminated together with contact cement, then primed. My greave is coming slightly undone because the Georgia humidity wasn't being terribly kind. Everything is dry brushed to give it metallic depth.

-The shoes were thrift store finds modded with foam toecaps.

-The shrug (BIG BOOFY SLEEVES) was made from a black on black brocade and stiffened with interfacing and piping. (Needs more stuffing!)

-The pants are microsuede and cut like jodhpurs. I wore them all the way home from Atlanta to Michigan, so they're comfy as sin.

-The split skirt is upholstery material bound with faux suede and decorated with studs and brass accessories. I'm going to give it a darker overdye before the next con.

-The scar's rigid collodion and the hair's my own with steaks of white greasepaint and a heavy dusting of baby powder. Sadly my green contacts didn't show up well on my naturally dark eyes, so I'm going to order a different pair for Youmacon.

I need to make a pouch, still and a retractable reel pack- I ran out of time and money before Dragon*Con! Thanks to all of the Legend of Korra and Avatar cosplayers who let me join in on their fun on Saturday and Sunday and a BIG thank you to the folks who gave me advice over my one-month build. I'm pretty proud of my first real cosplay!

(Also the badge can be torn off via velcro so that I can go OUTSIDE THE LAW)

Hey, this is Lightning from dragon con!
Remember, the girl with pink hair and the cape that came out of no where and hugged you like a crazy in the middle of CVS :D? Yup that was me lol.

I remember! Thank you, I really appreciate it! (I'm not much of a hugger in the armor, heh.)

I'm not supposed to be much of a hugger when I'm in uniform either but, Lin Bei Fong is the acception to all the rules ;).

Ur costume was amazing btw. I can't remember if I mentioned that or not while we were face to face but it was lol.
The detail work u put into it was amazing, you could definitely see your love for the character that went into making the costume.

Omg! An amazing cosplay and the best Lin I've seen yet!

I've wanted to cosplay as Lin since the first time I saw her, but I've been struggling with how to make it realistic-looking. Seeing this has really inspired me to keep working on mine. :)

Thanks! And yeah, Lin's outfit is a beast to make and plan. One of the biggest help for me was actually to look at examples of Japanese do (cuirass armor) and analyze how they're assembled.

Yeah, I've really been looking at Japanese do, as well as looking at Kyoshi warrior armor that I've thought was done very well. If I can get my armor to look even half as awesome as yours, I think I'll be happy!

Thank you so much! I'd probably want to make another similar suit (perhaps Suki or another fandom altogether) before I offered commissions, just to make sure that I got the process down. There's also a lot of fitting involved to get the right shape. (As you can see, some of the plates are way-curved, particularly around the bust)

Hahah, I noticed that after the photoshoot. For a bit I was worried that the badge was on the wrong side too (we're good on that). The scar's easy to fix, at least!

Beautiful! I love the more realistic approach and that armour is just stunning! Spectacular use of paint, would have been interesting to see the maneuverability of it in motion.
