Kapitan R.O. von Grelle by Forfaxia Kapitan R.O. von Grelle by Forfaxia
"Often vhen I am hunting pirates unt ze scum of the skies I hear 'you can't take the skies from me'. *cocks pistol* Vell I assure you that I can..."

The photo's tinted, so you can't see how strong the reds and the golds play off of the black, but it's a damned fine picture. I won best steampunk costume in my class at ConFusion 2009 this weekend along with the other crew members of the S.M.S. Zepherus.

I'd write a credits list for this costume, but it's lengthy- so for those of you who spurred me on or loaned me patterns or advice through this batshit project, thanks!

Feel free to ask any questions on particulars!

As part of the Costumery Week to raise awareness of this amazing craft I present you with this fantastic steampunk costume:
Kapitan R.O. von Grelle by *Forfaxia is a highly detailed costume that lets us read a lot about the character portrayed. It shows many steampunk elements while bursting out of the leather&gears frame of many creations in this genre. Airship Pirates beware, here comes the Kapitan! Hi there!

First off I gotta say I LOVE your costume. I like all the details and I can see how much time you put into your work.

I was wondering if I can ask a quick question though: Where did you manage to find the golden flat rope trims you used for the front of your jacket, boots, etc....I have a costume that requires similar military style trim but I can NEVER find it in stores. Even if you can't direct me, do you know the proper name for it so I can look it up?

Thank you so much!!

The trim was an annoying issue. I bought about 3 different kind before finding this particular kind online at M & J trimming ([link]) (they are pricey, but worth it). My particular trim is called 1/4 inch rayon file braid in the antique yellow color.

OMG thank you thank you THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I've been trying to find this forever..I mean I know it can be a little pricey but hell. Did you use the same one for the braided part around your collar? Or was that a different one as well?

Hello, my name is Micki and I'm making a picture-film for the Technical Museum of Stockholm, Sweden as they're having a steampunk exhibition.
I wonder if I may borrow this image.
Also, the film will NOT be uploaded to the internet, so if you'd like to see the finished result I'll need your e-mail adress. Also, your name will be shown at the end of the film, so I'll need your name and where you come from in that case!

Let me know if you approve (or don't approve!) soon!
Thanks!

I must say that I am very pleased to finally see a real steampunk lady instead of another tarty "steamslut". It's refreshing to see a strong woman fully clothed, strong, confident, assertive, and without her breasts bursting out of her corset. I can imagine that this is even more impressive in person!

Huzzah! Bravo!

I do admit, I have a summer-weight uniform in which I show off the assets a bit, but nothing gratuitous. But other than that, I do try to cover up- not only does it give you more costume to show off, but it's what makes sense for many of the characters I portray (military ladies, middle eastern assassins, cockney street urchins).

But enough of my blatherings, thank you for such a lovely compliment!
